Wailea and Makena and Beyond

The day started as usual - the walk for coffee and home for breakfast. Mike made a yummy omulet with fresh pineapple side. I am going to miss the fresh fruit I will tell you. There is so much flavour. And the tomatoes they smell and taste like home in the summer.

We hung out at the pool with the Kimbles then ventured out to explore another part of the island.

The major centres don't all connect. It is interesting. The roads all seem to converge at Kahului. From Kahului there are three roads that fan out to the east - the Kula Highway, Haleakala Highway, the Hana Highway - (360) that does connect back turning into 37 or the Kula Highway as you come around the east side of the island. From Kahului through the centre of the valley are several local traffic roads and then the main roads of Kuihelani, Mokulelle, Piilani and South Kihei. North Kihei is a connector going around Maalaea Bay. Honoapiilani Highway takes you around the west side of the island turning into Kahekili Highway on the north east side of West Maui. This takes you back to Kahului or you can turn south on the beginning of the Honoapiilani Highway back to North Kihei. Best seen on this map.

Okay back to our adventure for the afternoon. Heading south from Kihei we headed for Wailea and Makena. Now this must be the place that the rich and famous come. The note for Wailea is "high end shopping for the Tiffany crowd" - or "a planned resort community with one condominium or hotel resort after another".  There are 3 golf courses in Wailea and  2 in Makena. Makena also hosts some high end resorts as well as some incredible homes. The road south of Makena becomes very narrow and hugs the coast - some great snorkeling along the rocky beaches. You end up at La Perouse Bay after driving through the lava fields.
We stopped in Wailea at The Shops in Wailea - yes there are a lot of high end shops and they did have some really unique stores. Mike bought a couple of T-shirts and we got our travel picture - a watercolour print of the Hana Highway and I got a charm.

We ended our trip with Happy Hour at ??? we had a Mia Tia - it was huge - about a litre of liquid and it was delicious
