Lazy Day

Every morning on the corner of Walaka and S. Kihei Road there is a man sitting on the wall. About 5 feet from him are two school kids with back packs sitting reading. One morning I was late enough that I saw the school bus come. The man nodded to the kids; they got on the bus and he started walking home. Hardly any acknowledgement by either party but I gather that they are his and he walks them to the corner to catch the bus. Typical kids - love their parents but don't want the world to know.

The birds seemed noisier maybe because there wasn't any wind. It was hard to pick out individual calls. They swarmed into the empty lot at the end of the road. Beside the walled fence there are some very dried out sunflowers so I imagine that the seeds have been blown around the ground.

I found a brugmansia growing in behind the sunflowers, it looks very odd to see it there amongst the cactus and the dead sunflowers. They look like the specimun that I had grew called Rosemond - cream throat with a pink trumpet.

I met a elderly lady in our parking lot the first morning we were here. She was very friendly. She had on an old T-shirt and stained white shirt, pair of shorts and wild coloured socks and sandals. She announced that she was out for the best dressed award and she pointed to the wall and fence by the cars and said she grows basil and cilantro and I was welcomed to pick whenever I want. I talked with her again yesterday - she was dressed very nice so I said she was definitely a contender for that award and then we talked extensively about her garden. She has various kinds of tomatoes and herbs, poinsettas from Christmas that are still in great shape and a few other flowering plants. She said she was retired and that she lived in the complex all year round and that she was here taking a Master Gardeners degree. WOW How cool is THAT. She has a small SUV but mostly she rides her bike everywhere. We had a great chat about gardening.
This hibiscus grows along a fence as hedging

The rest of the day was spent at the beach across from Kimbles - Kamaole Beach. The waves were not bad. There were small round blue things about 1/4 of an inch in diameter with a white centre and blue (almost lacy) fingers around the centre floating in the water. Annie googled them and decided they might be Blue Button Jelly fish.

More to come

  1. The perogie dinner sounded scrumpdelicious! Very relaxing vacation but I don't think I would venture into the water with the little blue jellys. Hello to all! Shelleybelly
